Words: 865
Pairing: Kris/Adam friendship
Summary: Kris Allen cannot be trusted with your life. First, he loses his pet dog. And then he loses his best friend! (From a prompt from Miya!)
Warnings/Notes: The worst cliches ever. The one thing I've always tried to avoid. Meeting cute.

Cale Mills trailed behind his good friend Kris Allen as they traversed the busy streets of The Grove in Los Angeles. Although the holidays were technically over, Cale noticed a silent hush of Christmas hangover still draped over the city. As much as he wanted to walk at a leisurely pace and enjoy the view of The Grove on a particularly crisp and lethargic January morning, he couldn’t. Kris wouldn’t let him because they needed to keep their eyes peeled for Zorro.

They had been sitting in an al fresco table at The Farm of Beverly Hills, eating their breakfast and animatedly talking about the recent loss of the Arkansas Razorbacks in the third BCS bowl of the season, when they noticed that Zorro had gone missing. One minute he was there – sitting by their feet and waiting for some bacon to be dropped on the ground for him to gobble up – and the next thing they knew, the puppy was nowhere to be found.

They walked up 1st Street with Kris yelling out “Zorro, Zorro!” at the top of his lungs, catching the attention of many a fangirl not to mention the paparazzi, but Cale knew Kris could care less. He was intent on finding the little pup.

They were nearing Barnes & Noble when Cale spotted a familiar face. He nudged Kris. “Isn’t that Adam?”

“What?” Kris asked, obviously confused.

“Adam Lambert,” he said as he nodded his head in the direction of the bookstore. Cale then burst out laughing. “Look who found him.”

Adam was standing in front of the bookstore, a Starbucks cup in one hand and a Coach shopping bag in the other. He shifted the shopping bag to make it hang off of the crook of his arm and crouched down to pet a small giddy dog that kept nipping at his black denim jeans.

Cale and Kris started in Adam’s direction. “Adam!” Kris called out, a huge smile on his face.

Cale just watched in pure amusement as the smile on Adam’s face grew in indescribable proportions when he caught sight of the two of them.

Picking up Zorro with his empty hand, Adam stood back up and grinned as the other two approached him. “Kris!”

Kris picked up his pace and as soon as he reached Adam, he got swallowed up in a huge hug. Cale stood back and smiled. He admired the friendship between Kris and Adam. He found it refreshing and beguiling.

“How’s it going, man?” Cale said as soon as Adam let go of Kris.

“Fantastic!” Adam said, taking Cale in a one-arm hug. "Belated happy holidays, you guys!"

"Happy holidays to you, too," Cale said.

“You found my dog.” Kris smiled as he reached over to pet a happy Zorro. The little pup was nestled close to Adam’s chest and it snuggled even closer.

“This is Zorro?!” Adam asked as he cuddled the puppy closer to himself. “Figures. He’s as adorable as you are.”

Kris blushed, but masked it with a laugh. “Thanks for finding him.”

“He found me, I think,” Adam said with a laugh as Zorro licked the ticklish tip of his nose. “But how dare you lose him, Kristopher!”

“I didn’t lose him,” Kris defended himself. “Well, not exactly. Zorro’s normally very obedient and he hardly ever wanders off. Cale and I were at The Farm having pancakes – ”

“They were waffles, Kris,” Cale said with faux exasperation.

“Potato potahto,” Kris dismissed. “Anyway, so we were just having breakfast and Zorro was sitting right by us and the next thing I know, he’s gone.”

Adam bent down to nuzzle the top of Zorro’s head. “Being ignored isn’t fun, right? You poor little thing. Kristopher has been neglecting you.”

Kris rolled his eyes. “Gimme him.”

Adam looked up. “But he likes me!”

“He’s mine though.”

“You can have him if he willingly goes with you,” Adam said with a smirk.

Shaking his head with pretend annoyance, Kris stepped closer with outstretched arms. “Here, baby! Zorro, come to daddy!” he said in a cutesy voice, the kind we reserve for precious little animals and babies.

Zorro only jerked, barked and licked Adam’s cheek, much to Kris’ dismay.

“Smart dog,” Adam teased. “He’s got taste.”

Kris shook his head and smiled. “So, how have you been, Adam?”

“I’ve been good,” Adam answered. “The tour was good.”

“So I’ve heard, Mr. Grammy-Nominated Adam Lambert.”

Adam laughed. “What about you though?! How are you? I’ve missed your face, loser.”

Cale took that as his cue to disappear. Walking towards the Starbucks, Cale wondered to himself how long it would take Kris to realize he was missing.

As he paid for his order, Cale kept his eye on the two guys from inside the coffee shop. They were still chatting up a storm and Zorro was relentlessly trying to catch Adam’s attention by nipping at his chin.

Finally, Cale grabbed his cup off of the counter and headed towards the door. He barely made it outside when he heard Kris.

“What? Where did Cale go?”

“You, Kristopher Neil Allen, cannot be trusted with looking after anything, or anyone!” Adam said with a laugh. “That’s it. I’m keeping Zorro. Bye, Kris.” He then pretended to walk away, still laughing.
